I am the senior group leader and the GMP qualified person of the Cell Factory, Unit of Cell and Gene Therapies, at Maggiore Policlinic Hospital in Milan. I am professor of histology at DiSIT-Department of Science, Technology and Innovation, at University of Eastern Piedmont "Amedeo Avogadro” in Vercelli.

I am widely recognized as a world leader in the field of human adult stem cells. In 2013, I have been one of the first pioneer researcher investigating the role played by exosomes and extracellular vesicles in regenerative medicine. In 2016 together with a strong consortium I have been involved as workpackage leader in the new era of human organoids. And after that experience, my group and I became experts of human organoids and recently we developed a new 3D lung organoid model which is used as 3D avatar to study the pathophysiological aspects of the lung for testing respiratory injuries.
